Welcome to Pajero.org.uk - One man's blog about living with a Mitsubishi Pajero.
On these pages you'll be able to find out about my day-to-day experiences of driving, servicing, fixing and off-roading with my Pajero. Plus anything else I can throw in that's related.
Please be sure to join in the fun - there's usually a comments box at the end of each article, so leave a thought about what I've written. I'd be interested to know about ways I can improve the site and perhaps things you'd like to see in it too. Click on the "Contact Me" link above to get in touch directly.
Ben got in touch to show off his gunmetal grey 2.5TD SWB. He knows I like this colour and it seems he’s also into his tunes, with a kicking music system.
Well it was that time of the year for me last week - the dreaded MOT test! It’s a few years since I’d had to put a car through the MOT as I’d either had a newish car that didn’t need it or had simply sold the car before needing one. As my Pajero is now 13 years old I was a little bit worried. But on the other hand she’s in great condition so I was also quietly confident she wouldn’t let me down.
Dropped her off at the garage in the morning and kept the mobile phone close to me all day. By the time it got late in the afternoon and I’d not heard anything I started to fear the worst.
On the Sunday of my recent Big Pajero Meet a gang of us set off for a day’s green laning on the North Yorkshire Moors.
Routes had already been mapped about by the team leaders and I simply tagged along. Once we got to the action we split up into three groups with ours bringing up the rear. Our group numbered just three; Steve with wife Fran in their white 2.8, Lee with son in his blue over silver 2.5 and me.
You really couldn’t wish for a more glorious day in terms of getting the best weather England is capable of. Couple this with North Yorkshire’s outstanding beauty and we had a day to remember.
On the 10th of May I made my way over to the Blue Dolphin holiday park near Filey for the Pajero Owners Club UK’s annual Mega-Meet. The club has many meets all over the country throughout the year, but this is the main one that attracts members from all over the country.
I decided to camp out for the first time in about 20 years, so was happy that the weather was absolutely fantastic. I stayed Saturday afternoon through to late Sunday afternoon and enjoyed every minute of it. Met lots of new faces as well as some I already knew and got thoroughly immersed in the crazy world of the Pajero. Also enjoyed an excellent barbeque on the Saturday night.
This is the final piece in the jigsaw for me in terms of upgrading my Pajero’s music system - the subwoofer.
I’d looked at various ways of adding the required bass to my system and decided an active (amplifier included) enclosed box system suited my needs the best. I read quite a few reviews on this particular box - the Vibe CBR10 Active EVO and thought I’d give it a go. I must say that after having it in place for a couple of weeks that I’m very pleased with my choice.
In my continuing quest for musical perfection (on a modest budget) I’ve now replaced the old unit that was in the car with a rather nice Kenwood KDC-W6537U. I actually bought it at Christmas and have only just gotten round to fitting it.
It’s not an expensive unit at all but does all the things I want with the power I want. Namely a cd player, can play from a USB device and has plenty of control over the outputs. Oh and two preouts as I want to add a subwoofer and may add another amp in the future. All for £99 and looking online now you can pick them up for £79. Car stereos really have come down in price over the years.
Matt’s been in contact again and wanted to let us know about a recent day out in his Pajero. This is what he had to say:
“It had been raining for about two months straight and some of the roads were about a foot and a half deep with mud.
Heaps of fun!!!! Hit a lot of them hard trying to get as dirty as possible but then we would do a river crossing and clean it all off.
All up it was around 140kms of hard mud driving and it was only when we were close to home I noticed the temp going up a bit. Fearing the worst I nursed it home….
The next job on my list in terms of upgrading the music system was to add some rear speakers. Like the front doors, my Pajero didn’t have any rear panel speakers either and not even any holes in the panel.
So since I’d bought the truck I’d been running around with a home-made parcel shelf in the boot containing some 6×9 Kenwoods. This was OK, apart from the fact that I was compromising the little boot space I have in the shortie by having this shelf in place. Much better to have some in the rear panel I reckoned, plus this would free up space in the boot to house a sub-woofer box - I mean, who needs boot space?!! Seriously though, the sub-woofer box will be easily removable whereas my shelf wasn’t.
Well here’s a lovely silver Pajero in amazing surroundings. Matt got in touch to ask about a problem with his exterior temperature sensor (he’s fixed it now) and to show me his beautiful home.
It’s a 1996 model which he bought from Japan around the same time I bought mine (May 2007) and his verdict is that it’s an “Absolutely fantastic car” which I completely agree with.
Having decided to upgrade the stereo system in my Pajero, the first thing I wanted to tackle was the front door speakers. From what I can gather, most Pajeros came out of the factory with some speakers fitted in the front doors, so it’s often a fairly easy job to upgrade the existing factory fitted ones with some more powerful ones. But my Pajero had none fitted at all so all I had was a blank panel.
