Pajero Discussion

As the site gets busier people are emailing me and adding comments to certain posts. This is great - please continue! But some of the comments under certain posts haven’t been relevant to the post topic, so I thought I’d start a section where anything goes. I’ll move comments here from other posts if they aren’t really relevant to the post.

Please post a comment below if you just want to say hello, have a question about Pajeros, or simply want to let everyone know about your truck.

    Hi Matt

Thanks for getting in touch and great to hear from you.

The outside temperature sensor should be located inside the front bumper. From what I remember it’s inside the plastic end piece, but can’t remember which side. You should be able to locate the wire by having a feel around and as a last resort take the bumper off (easy enough). But I have heard of people finding them in other places as they must have been moved by previous owners. In the bumper end is where they should be anyway. Good luck with it and let me know how you get on.

UPDATE: Matt actually found the sensor before he read my “words of wisdom”. Apparently some bright spark had moved it at some point and it was next to the radiator. Hence the reason Matt was getting some pretty dodgy temperature readings!

    Hi Tim,

    Great idea with the website.

We live in the Solomon Islands and bought a 1996 SWB Pajero from Japan around the same time as you did.

Absolutely fantastic car. My wife and I are really happy with it.

The only problem I’ve had (and I can’t say that it is exactly a major one), is that the Outside Temperature Displayed is incorrect. There are no reputable motor mechanics, let alone Mitsubishi dealers in Honiara, Solomon Islands.

I bought a CD from the UK which contained the Workshop Manuals for all Pajero/Shoguns; this it tells me how to test the sensor which I am quite capable of, however, it doesn’t tell me where to find it.

I figure that it must be in or around the engine bay, but after lots of looking I am yet to find it.

Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

    Regards,

    Matt

    Hi Carl, thanks for posting.
Glad to hear you’re enjoying the Pajero. That’s quite a few miles you’ve put on since February. And sleeping in it too - must be love!
I’ve been meaning to do a write up about the PWR button and will do it this afternoon. Not sure where you’d get parts in France apart from scrap yards and Mitsubishi dealers, but over here there are various places such as Milners. Just do some Googling - depends what you need really.
    All the best.

    Hi Tim
I bought a Pajero 1994 LWB 2800 in Feb 07 and have already done 33000 k in it taking the back seats out my wife and I have save a fortune on hotel bills around France where we live. Its the the best £2500 I’ve spent so far having only done 118000 k
One I need to know is what does the PWR light mean under the OD Off light and where is the the best place to source parts.
    Regards
    Carl

Wow, someone from Japan. Nice to meet you hirorinn324.
For anyone who wants to know more about the Pajero Bluemoon, you have to look at his website - http://hirorinn324.hp.infoseek.co.jp/
Full of pictures and interesting stuff, even if it is in Japanese!

    Nice to meet you.
    I’m hirorinn324.
    I also own Pajerobluemoon.
    I own it since 1999.
It has already run 109000 kilos.
It is not thought to transfer to other cars at all.
The improvement measures were given only with the EGR hose in the previous car inspection though my Bluemoon did not hang in the recall in Japan.
It had stopped when having begun to have run before the movement of the jet pump dulled due to the cold, and the engine got warm.
Please visit my homepage if it is good. Though only Japanese.

Hi John, thanks for the update - very interesting.
I’ve heard of quite a few people doing the preheat button thing and was going to look into it myself but I managed to sort out my starting trouble.
I’ve no idea about immobilisers I’m afraid. Window tinting is near the bottom of a long list of little jobs to do for now, so I’ll probably do it next Spring I think.
Yeah, I guess ebay’s the best place for a cheap roof rack and ladder - just make sure you search under Shogun as well as Pajero!
I’d be interested in the ball joints job when you get around to it.
    Tim.

Hello again, just a little blog on how I’m getting on with my new pride and joy, (LWB 2.5td) following the fuel filter change it has been a joy to drive, cold starting was a problem, so I started by changing the glow plugs which were goosed, unfortunatly this did not fix the problem I then took my meter and placed it between the buss bar and earth and got my son to turn the key, all I got was approx 9.5volts for a second or two, not being one to be disheartened by this type of problem and being a tight wad when it comes to spending my hard earned cash, My solution was to simply wire in manual pre heat push button on the steering column opposite side to the key, No more problem, starts first time every time.
I’ve just purchased an immobiliser and a keyless entry upgrade from my favourite store (ebay) and I’m fitting it soon, assuming I can find some way of identifying the wiring colour code (any help would be appreciated), I’ve also purchaced the dark window tint film for the rear windows which I think looks good, I’ve tried putting it on one window and lost the plot when it went wrong, so I’m breaking a long term rule of mine and I’m going to pay someone to do the job for me.
I’ve removed the Pajero fog lamps which I found to be useless and replaced them with a descent pair of spot lamps, speaking of fog lamps I have also got to fit a rear one.
I’m now on the lookout for a roof rack and rear door ladder, I’ve seen them on ebay but they are still quite pricey, I’ll bide my time, I’m not in a rush,
One job I have to do for the next MOT is replace the top and bottom ball joints on both sides, I’ll let you know how I get on and record and problems or tips I come across to aid any of you DIY’ers/tight wads like me.

Hi John. Sorry to say that what you’re getting is about right for the 2.5 and 2.8 models. The best I’ve heard for a 65mph run is around 28/29 MPG, but most will give about what you got - mine does.
Probably not what you want to hear.

Hi Tim, My Pajero 2.5td LWB manual is going great,BUT fuel economy is poor, can you give me an idea of what sort of MPG I should be getting on a long run sitting between 60 and 70 most of the way, I’ve been getting somewhere in the region of 25/26mpg which is pretty poor, I thought I’d get a lot more than that, if this is very low can you give me any idea what would be causing this, I was running a SWB frontera 2ltr petrol to do the same regular 420 mile journey and it was bad enough, this is a lot worse.
