Pajero Discussion

As the site gets busier people are emailing me and adding comments to certain posts. This is great - please continue! But some of the comments under certain posts haven’t been relevant to the post topic, so I thought I’d start a section where anything goes. I’ll move comments here from other posts if they aren’t really relevant to the post.

Please post a comment below if you just want to say hello, have a question about Pajeros, or simply want to let everyone know about your truck.

Well Rick, it sounds like you’ve got a few ideas to try and good luck with that. You might want to try looking at this site for answers as well: http://www.pocuk.com/forums/

hi tim thankyou for your reply.
ive been a electro-mech for 20 odd years now, originally a auto-electrician,but many areas in the trade have changed today.especially with the introduction of engine managment. Not the best way for us d.i.y car repairers, thankfully the models ive bought in the past are conventional diesel injection.
soon after buying my pajero it developed this fault,i read up what i could to try and avoid costly garage bills. The other day i give her a new oil and filter change,i also added an additive to the engine oil thats supposed to revive any rubber seals that comes into contact with the engine oil,it said on the tin (allow 300 miles to allow it to work.I,m at 173 miles so for after adding it and the smoking is only appearing on start up,and it isnt cutting out after a mile or so.maybe it will work short term until i get a bit more info to replace the seal eventually.I think i,m going to give it a bottle of injecter cleaner this may improve starting and have a look at the heater plugs also, will hope some of these will help .
    thanks ricka
ive also got a noise when i turn right but that going to have to wait pajero s are all fun lol

Hi Rick, thanks for posting here.
Not sure about your specific problem, so maybe someone else can offer an opinion. Obviously a reputable mechanic would be a good option for you. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

    hi everyone
ive just bought a 2,8 96 lwb i,m having problems with runing from a cold start and its cutting out . When she,s warm the engines fine, ive been reading up it may be the front oil seal on the fuel pump that might need replacing, has anyone else had this type of problem and is it a big job.Apart from that the truck is great,i should have bought one years ago.
    thanks rick.

Thanks for posting Steve. I really appreciate some input on this.
Hadn’t thought about the EGR valve - sounds like good advice. For those that are interested I’ll be servicing mine at some point in the next few months - I’ll do a write up about it.
Would be interesting to know how Stuart’s getting on with his problem.

I’d suggest removing and cleaning the EGR valve which tends to get very clogged. If the drop in power is accompanied by black smoke under load or when starting then this is also a marker to support EGR theory. Some people remove the valve and fit a blanking plate, however I’d recommend against this as the valve serves a purpose and when serviced (cleaned) reguarly it works well. All you need is an EGR valve gasket and some injector cleaner. Google “clean egr valve pajero” and you should find more info.

    Hi Stuart, thanks for posting.
I’d probably start to look elsewhere if you’ve cleaned up the fuel side of things. How’s your air filter for instance? Anyone else got any ideas on this?
Let us know how you get on with it Stuart.

Hi All at my wits end??
I have a 94 2.8TD which is great, the other week it started to be sluglish, i would put go up through the box and you could feel it struggling. to get up to speed. I have changed the fuel filter and drained the tank thinking it was dirty fuel, but still happens, I have tried the old flush bottles in the tank but still there, as anybody got any ideas???

    thanks

    Stuart

    Hi Rico, thanks for posting.
Sounds like you might have a fuel leak to me. I’d check connections around the fuel pump, fuel filter and injectors for a start. Any leak will be letting air in.
    Hope this helps.
