When I was looking around for a Mitsubishi Pajero to buy I had an idea in my mind about how the ideal truck would look (as well as lots of other criteria). My favourites to look at were Short Wheel Base, all one colour and (how can I put this?) tough looking. I loved the one-coloured, grey models (gun metal grey?) that I’d seen with a minimum of bling. By bling I mean anything shiny and unnecessary that could make the car look a bit girly and non-off-road-like.
What I ended up with was a compromise. My Pajero is a lovely dark blue – one coloured, rather than two-toned. It’s a great colour in my opinion. But there is a fair bit of bling too: full chromed bullbar, steel wheels sprayed silver, silver door handles, chromed mirrors and silver rear light protectors. I also don’t really like the spare wheel cover that’s got loads of writing on it.
On the other hand I do think it looks pretty good as it is now. It’s just not what I had in mind for the image of my truck. So after living with it for a couple of weeks I’ve decided to start de-blinging (is this a word?). Of course if I don’t like the more toned down version I could always go back to the shiny version. So here’s what I plan to do:
- Remove the bullbar and fog lights
- Work out how best to get the wheels back to black
- Remove rear light protectors, paint black and replace
- Get a plain black spare wheel cover
Then I may also think about the door handles and mirrors, although the mirrors are really part of being a Pajero I think.
